About the Author
Dr. Gerald Keller is Emeritus Professor of Business at Wilfrid Laurier University, where he taught statistics, management science, and operations management from 1974 to 2011. He also taught at the University of Toronto, the University of Miami, McMaster University, the University of Windsor, and the Beijing Institute of Science and Technology. In addition to consulting with banks on credit scoring and credit card fraud, Dr. Keller has conducted market surveys for the Canadian government on energy conservation. His books include BSTAT, 2e, APPLIED STATISTICS WITH MICROSOFT EXCEL, ESSENTIALS OF BUSINESS STATISTICS (co-authored), AUSTRALIAN BUSINESS STATISTICS (co-authored), and STATISTICS LABORATORY MANUAL EXPERIMENTS USING MINITAB. Dr. Keller also has been published in OMEGA, IIE TRANSACTIONS, DECISION SCIENCES, INFOR, ECONOMICS LETTERS, and ARCHIVES OF SURGERY.

Dr. Brian Warrack: After teaching in the Faculty of Commerce and Business Administration at the University of Alberta, Dr. Warrack joined Wilfrid Laurier University, where he has taught courses in corporate finance, investment management, statistics, and decision analysis. He also has published several articles and cases in these areas. His current research interest lies in financial markets. Dr. Warrack also is co-author of PROXIMITY SPACES.

Basic an clearly understandable

This book covers a wide area of fields necessary for business and economic students. It also explains how to go on if necessary conditions are violated. Time-series analysis, which is very important for economic students, are not covered to the extent as other topics, but it nevertheless gives a good introduction of other statistical concepts necessary for understanding following books on time series analysis. For my opion there are a little bit to much exercises than necessary, for an autodidactic study but enough for class room work. A very fine feature is that there never come up terminologies which has not been discussed before and one can use MS-Excel.

This book became my statistics bible. After never attending any statistics classes at the University, I was suddenly forced to work with multiple regressions at work. This book helped me understand all about statistics that I needed for my business purposes. The examples are very helpfull to understand what the tests actually do and how you can solve your own inference problems. I read the whole book in about 10 days (2 hours a day) at the beach and now work mainly with the overviews in the last chapters when I have a problem to solve at work.

A very good introduction to statistics

I found the book remarkably clear and instructive. It was the textbook for an MBA statistics course. Fortunately the book was much better than the teacher, so that by primarily ignoring the confused musings of the professor, and reading and working the exercises in the book, I was able to get an A in the class, and, more importantly, understand statistical principles and applications. I worked with the 6th edition. I now use the book as a reference for my work activities as well.

Fluid mechanics for mathematicians

I would not recommend this book for any introductory fluid mechanics course because there are a lot of derivation steps as well as background information assumed by the author.
This is more of a mathematical approach to fluid mechanics as opposed to the more classical engineering approach.

Save Your Money --- Don't Buy This

I bought a paperback version of this textbook a few years ago. There were many printing and typo errors (the top few lines on many pages were lost),and the quality of explanations in the textbook is disappointing for a group of authors from a supposedly distinguished university. Wanted to sell the book to recoup my loss but there was no market for it. Doesn't that speak volumes about this book?

Terrible Fluids Book

This book was used in my fluids class and was no help at all. The explanations are unclear and confusing, and there are very few examples. This book does not make a good class text or reference text. Do not buy this book. If you are an undergrad then buy Fluid Mechanics by Young et al. or Crowe et al., or if you want more buy Viscous Fluid Flow by White.

a great book for yourself or a perfect gift!

A lot of good "food for thought" in this book. Dr Lombardo discusses a few things that i should do everyday that i just don't get to do if i am busy. I am finding it really easy to incorporate some of the core messages of this book into my day when i feel like i am getting off-sides and need to get back to that "happy place". I liked this book so much and thought it had such a good message that i bought it for a few friends and family that i thought would appreciate it! they all did! Definitely worth checking this book out!!

I thought I was already happy!

I really wasn't in the market for a self-help book, if that's what you'd call it, when I happened upon this book. In fact, I consider myself to be a relatively happy person - with lots of good fortune, family and friends. However, after reading just a few pages from Dr. Lombardo's book, I really starting to think about some of the things she was saying and how much sense she was making. In a few days, I had read the entire book and I have to say, I probably think about something from the book every day. It's not like I read it intently or had to memorize parts of it. There were really just so many thought-provoking points and perspectives that stuck with me. I can honestly say, I didn't start out trying to be happier but I certainly ended up there.

simplicity works for me

this book reinforced what i knew works for me as far as being content, fulfilled and happy. and that is not to have too many irons in the fire, enjoy quietness, nature, family, exercise and eating healthy (ahem..most the time) i just read an article saying some young parents are on their phones doing stuff up to 11 hours a day, completely ignoring their children. pitiful. like i say the book made me proud of my choices to live simply. i know its not for everyone. since i retired, luckily at age 57, i have really noticed how tense people are and in a big hurry to go no where. i recommend the book. it's good.

If you do a lot of welding, this is a handy book to have.

A co-worker recommended i by this book and i found it to be both comprehensive and informative. I am an engineer and my co-worker is a welder and we both refer back to this book, all be it different sections. If i could just find a book like this on press brake operation i would be in heaven.

Makes learning new rudiments so much easier!

The way Matt Savage teaches is amazing. I remember one time, and a drum camp where he was teaching, the snares just couldn't get 1 or 2 measures. Matt broke it down, he said play this...we did...play this...ok, now add this...yep, and do this...and we all had it! It was really cool when I realised not only I could do it, but so could the entire line. This book teaches in the exact same way, and is a must have for any snare drummer trying go get better. It even has CDs for the solos to make sure you're playing it right ;)

I've worked with Matt in both a high school and University setting. His teaching style is very effective and is well conveyed in this book. It is a resource for all levels: beginners can learn the rudiments correctly and quickly; more proficient players learn ways to improve the rudiments as well as their overall sound. The solos provide a great forum for understanding how rudiments can be musical and incorporated into one's playing.

i'm not the biggest matt savage fan...even though he writes are music for marching band. But i msut admit this boog ahs it all. It will teach you all the Rudiments you need to know. and it will help you inprove your skill as well. i suggest buying it. :)
